Cali Girl in NYC

I've lived in California for 24 years, and decided to move clear across the country for law school. this will be where all can come to laugh at me as i die in the humidity and freeze in the snow as my california body adjusts to life in new york city...through this blog, i hope to have everyone else suffer just a little with me as i make my way through law school

did you know....

did you know that when you are eating an animal's "loin" (i.e., tenderloin, sirloin, etc) its actually from the animal's back and not it's...loin...region...
yeah, me neither. of course, why would i? but still, i always wondered...

and, yeah, thats right. im surfing the net to see what part of the animal the loin is instead of working on finals. TAKE THAT LAW SCHOOL.

aaaaaand, this is how we fail law school....

back to it! article 20 of the new york penal law. parties to offenses and liability through accessorial conduct....

plea for help

well, a dark cloud has passed over me. (figuratively and literally....stupid weather).

finals have begun.

while i have been spending quite a bit of time preparing and studying the past couple of weeks, i received my first final today (11-day take home, so not too bad).

but, what this really means is:
i wont really be answering my phone.
i am going to try my damndest to keep my tv off....
and i am going to go absolutely beyond batty in my apartment.

so, what can YOU do? well, you can send me emails!! my internet is a fun distraction, but things just arent updated as frequently as i need (every 10 minutes or so....) =)
so, send me love through emails!

send me food! send me letters! i dont know. anything that wouldn't be too distracting that i would spend too much time not studying, but would distract me sufficiently enough to keep me from losing my mind...

and on that note, my ass has officially become numb. my couch really isnt as comfortable as i was hoping it to be....my sincerest apologies to both my mother and summer who have been forced to sleep on it.

entertain me!

aaaaaaaand.....GO!

nothing makes me happier....

nothing makes me happier than making a conscious decision to take a study break for the evening to clean my apartment so i dont go absolutely freaking batty while im stuck in it for the next 3 weeks studying for/taking finals.
nothing makes me happier than as i am changing my sheets, i decide to flip my mattress, so i remove the mattress cover. i flip the mattress then spend at least ten minutes making the bed so that everything fits *just* right (shut up, who cares if im a little ocd at times. its the only thing i CAN control right now!!). and then, as i go to start putting pillows on the bed i realize it: i forgot the mother effing mattress pad.
yeah, nothing makes me happier....

oh my freaking god

so, im proud to admit: i LOVED the baby-sitter's club book series when i was younger (and, by "younger" i mean, until i was probably 18. and then i still read the books occassionally. yeah, im 25.).
my god i loved those books. stacey, mary anne, dawn...ooh. dawn was awesome. she's from california. and a vegetarian. see where im going here?
so, i read this daily blog, Popcandy, and today, well, today miss whitney said the most amazing thing. apparently, there is some person somewhere who blogs about the BSC books. it freaking ROCKS.
so, for anyone who used to read the books (or, if you just like bitchy sarcasm--YAY!) go check out teh BSC Headquarters.
its fun!

my mother will be so disappointed in me...

so, today is beautiful. no. i mean BEAUTIFUL. just about 80 degrees. clear blue sky. amazing. so, i decided to go down to the promenade and do some reading (haha, i was down there for about 2 hours, and i think i read all of 22 pages. yeah, a little pathetic). i didnt put any sunscreen on. and now im a little pink.

is it wrong that my sunburn almost makes me HAPPY? (happy in the sense that, HEY! ITS SPRING! AND IM NO LONGER WHITER THAN A BABY'S ARSE!!)

happiness is...

happiness is walking outside after days of rain and cold weather to sunny skies and warm weather.

happiness is walking down the old streets of brooklyn and seeing the trees blossoming.

happiness is walking into banana republic, finding pants that fit PERFECTLY, and are on clearance for $26 dollars (including tax!).

happiness is sitting in my apartment in shorts and a tank top with the windows WIDE open with a warm spring breeze blowing in.

happiness is an A&W rootbeer float.

what makes you happy?

this is too great!

Virginia Tech

This Friday. Do it.

"Virginia Tech family members across the country have united to declare this Friday, April 20th, an "Orange and Maroon Effect" day to honor those killed in the tragic events on campus Monday, and to show support for Virginia Tech students, faculty, administrators, staff, alumni, and friends. "Orange and Maroon Effect" was born several years ago as an invitation to Tech fans to wear orange and maroon to Virginia Tech athletic events. We invite everyone from all over the country to be a part of the Virginia Tech family this Friday, to wear orange and maroon to support the families of those who were lost, and to support the school and community we all love so much."

hey, phil...if you're gonna spew....

holy excessive amounts of food....i honestly think i might hurl.
but before i get to that!!

so, i didnt get very far in summer's visit...so, the next morning, we got up and went to brunch with my friend mike in chelsea at elmo's, where we enjoyed visions of beautiful gay men...and had really good food. sum and i both got this tex-mex egg dish...but, at this particular moment, thinking about food kinda makes me nauseous....so you dont get details. maybe another time...
from there, we went and did some shopping with mike at H&M and dsw for....LAW SCHOOL PROM!! yay!!!

my friend kristen came over to my apartment to get dressed, and we had a girls-getting ready for prom fun time. walking around in our underwear, trying on different dresses, doing makeup...fun fun. then, kristen left to go hang out with a boy, and sum and i went to a new-ish friend of mine's pre-prom party at his apartment in park slope. then we headed off to prom--at the most unbelieveably gaudy place in the world. and it was really weird--the SECOND i walked into the building, i literally felt like i was back in highschool again. and by back in highschool, i mean, all of a sudden i got really uncomfortable and insecure. it was weird...
we had a little bit of fun at teh beginning, and then we decided to get a drink. there were four bars, four bartenders (total) and they werent actually bartenders but events workers, and over 500 people. add those up and you dont get quick bar service. we waited in line for about 40 mintues, not movining because people kept cutting in front, and then we finally cut in front of people. of course, by the time i ordered my drinks they were out of all cups except for those tiny dessert goblets that hold like two tiny sips of liquor. and the idiot bartender guy tried to fill both my glasses with ice (i was GOING to get gin and tonics--thats right, plural, because there was no way i was going to order ONE drink and then have to wait in line for anotehr hour to get another drink). but i stopped him. and then he realized he was out of tonic. and lime juice. and limes. so, i got two glasses of gin. which i couldnt actually drink because it was so gross. so, we spent a couple hours talking to people and kinda half-assed dancing before i heard the AMAZING NEWS: they had put out buckets of beer!! finally!! so, i chugged a few of those , and suddenly! prom was fun!

so, sum left that tuesday, and i went crazy with school stuff. then, this past monday, my friend from college, shannon, who i actually hadnt seen in three years came to town. so, i met up with her an dher brother for lunch, then we walked around the village for a while before going to the bodies exhibit. it was REALLY interesting. shannon and her brother then went to philly and DC and got back to nyc today, so i met up with them for dinner.
and that is why i feel nauseous. i ate an AMAZING veggie burger, half a salad, some plaintain, a helluva lot of cheese fries, a beer, and this meringue dessert thing.

and now the food coma/diabetes is kicking in and im getting tired. suppose its time for bed...sorry this post is dull

calm the FRICK down

geez people. i dont always feel like sharing my thoughts...however. now that my torts prof has complained about the lack of posts, i am going to take that as free license to set aside my torts reading for wednesday and blog instead. i suppose i have to have priorities...

okay. so, many of you read summer's blog, which makes me feel incredibly redundant, but, i suppose i could put my own spin on things. but, as a warning, im tired, and not feeling very creative, so dont expect much.

so, summer got here last friday. i had planned on having my apartment cleaned and all of my homework completed before she got here at 8am friday morning. well....that wish didnt exactly pan out. so, i spoke with her when her plan landed around 730 on friday morning, which meant that i had until about 9am for her to get to my apartment. which means i had to get my ass out of bed and clean. and my apartment was TRASHED! and i had gone out the night before, and getting up and moving around was the last thing i wanted to do. and, i know she probably wouldnt care how messy i am, but i feel like i need to clean for company. so, i did. and then she got here and we both went back to sleep, with gilmore girls in the background. oh gilmore girls, how i once loved thee...moment of silence for the wonderfulness it once was...

aaaaand, we're back. okay, so, let me think. what did we do that friday? oh RIGHT! so, we met up with casey, and headed down to schnack for some beer shakes, french fries, and burger shooters (veggie for those of us-me-that dont eat meat). it was all happiness, until the bill came. we ACCIDENTALLY didnt leave enough for the tip, adn the friggin waiter comes back over--and, let me just say, the service wasnt exactly all that great. i had to wait almost 10 minutes, and then almost threw my back out waving the guy down just to get a glass of water--and says something to the effect of, "were you guys not pleased with teh service?" and we said it was fine, and he responded that we hadnt left him enough of a tip. are you serious???? i mean, thats not okay. there are more tactful ways to go about that. ick. anyway, that put a slight damper on the afternoon. my friend chris, his roommate graham, and graham's girlfriend kristina were coming to meet us, but we left before they got there because we didnt want to sit there any longer. we ran into that group on the corner, and they went on to have their beer shakes, and we went to buck's lodge to olay some BIG BUCK HUNTER!! hooowaah!!! my god i think im addicted to that game. we played that for a while, adn then chris came and met up wtih us there. summer then left to meet up with her brother to grab some dinner adn go salsa dancing or something. chris, casey, and i headed up to soho together to see my cousin christopher, who was also in town that weekend. we met up at sweet and vicious, which is a fun little lounge-ish type bar. the four of us hung out for a bit, adn then matt came and met up with us, fresh from an awkward date. then, erin came and met us. then mike and his friend chuck. and summer and justin showed up eventually, too, although justin left soon after. we all hung out there for a while, talking and having fun, before the boys decided that they wanted to go dancing. so, where to go with three gay guys, three straight guys, adn two (erin left) girls? why, mr. black, of course!! it was actually really fun. casey was having fun because he kept getting hit on by gay guys....well, he was being stand-offish at first (he is dating someone) but then he realized that he could get free drinks and...well...yeah. christopher kept running off places, so i assume he was having fun. we ran into another friend from school, ted, and his boyfriend, so we talked to him for a while. eventually, chris was ready to go to sleep, so he, summer, and i hopped on the subway back to brooklyn and we all headed home to sleep.

okay. so, that was day one. and now i have to go get ready to meet up with some people. there is your fix. maybe i will write more tomorrow instead of finsihing my torts reading....hmmm...
